You have a great product. You have spent countless hours brainstorming, designing, testing, and refining it. You are proud of your creation and you are ready to share it with the world. But there is one problem: your product is not selling as well as you expected. Why?
One possible reason is that your product is not aligned with the culture and the needs of your target audience. Culture is a complex and dynamic phenomenon that influences people’s values, beliefs, behaviors, preferences, and expectations. It affects how people perceive, use, and evaluate products and services. If you want to sell your product to a different culture, you need to understand and adapt to it.
Here are some steps you can take to sell your product considering the cultural characteristics of your audience:
1. Do your research. Before you launch your product in a new market, you need to do some homework. Learn about the culture of your target audience, their pain points, their goals, their motivations, their habits, their preferences, and their expectations. You can use various methods such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, or online research to gather this information. Or just talk with the people. As we discovered at Telios Care, what we thought about what people need was not similar with what they needed. So, we adapted our product and refined it until it covered exactly those challenges people faced in accessing healthcare services in Romania.
2. Test your product. Once you have some insights about your target audience, you need to test your product with them. You can use prototypes, mockups, or beta versions to get feedback from potential customers. You can also use tools such as analytics, heatmaps, or user testing platforms to measure how people interact with your product. You need to find out if your product solves their problem, if it meets their needs, if it fits their lifestyle, if it appeals to their emotions, and if it matches their values.
3. Adapt your product. Based on the feedback and data you collected, you need to adapt your product to the culture of your target audience. You may need to make changes in the features, the design, the functionality, the usability, or the accessibility of your product. You may also need to adjust the language, the tone, the style, or the content of your product. You need to make sure that your product is culturally appropriate, relevant, and respectful.
4. Market your product. After you have adapted your product to the culture of your target audience, you need to market it effectively. You need to craft a compelling value proposition that highlights how your product solves their problem, meets their needs, fits their lifestyle, appeals to their emotions, and matches their values. You need to choose the right channels, platforms, and media to reach and engage your target audience. You need to use the right language, tone, style, and content to communicate with them. You need to build trust and credibility with them. Otherwise, you might have the best product, but if you can’t sell it, you have nothing.
Selling your product to a different culture is not easy. It requires research, testing, adaptation, and marketing. But it is worth it. By understanding and adapting to the culture of your target audience, you can create a product that they will love and buy. 🙂
