I just finished reading The Spy Coast #ad by Tess Gerritsen, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I expected a thrilling spy novel, but what I got was a boring and slow story that didn’t keep me interested. The main character is a former spy who has to deal with some unfinished business from her past, involving her dead husband and some Russian enemies. She also has to figure out who is trying to kill her in the present. Sounds exciting, right? Well, not really. The book takes forever to get going, and then it slows down again after a brief moment of action. There are too many details and descriptions that don’t add anything to the story, and some characters that are irrelevant and annoying, like the cop who keeps showing up for no reason. The book lacks suspense and surprises, and the twists are obvious and lame. I don’t think Tess Gerritsen did a good job with this one, especially compared to other spy books I’ve read lately, like the ones by Mike Bond. Those are much better and more engaging. I’m not sure if I want to read more books by Tess Gerritsen after this one. I give it 3 stars out of 5, because it’s not the worst book ever, but it’s not very good either. It’s just…meh.
