I recently finished reading A Parent’s Guide to A Safer Childbirth, by Gina C. Mundy, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It is not my typical book to read, but I stumbled upon this book on Amazon, where it was recommended to me as part of the Kindle Unlimited program. As someone who works in healthcare, I was curious to see what this book had to offer, but I also had some reservations. I thought it might be another boring or biased guide that tries to tell you what to do or not to do during labor. But I was wrong.
This book is not only well-written but also well-researched. The author is a childbirth attorney and a mother of three, and she knows what she is talking about. She provides clear and practical advice on how to work with your delivery team to protect yourself and your baby during labor. She covers various scenarios that may arise, such as induction, epidural, cesarean, used substances, and more. She also explains the risks and benefits of different interventions, and how to make informed decisions based on the best available evidence. She does not impose her opinion or judgment but rather empowers you to be an active participant in your care.
I found this book very informative and helpful, and I wish I had read it before my son was born. But it’s never too late to learn something new and useful. I think every expectant parent should read this book, especially the mother-to-be. It will help you prepare for childbirth in a way that is safer, healthier, and less complicated for both you and your baby. I rate it with a 5/5 note.
