Book Review: Ordesa, by Manuel Vilas

I just finished this book and it’s the first one I read by Manuel Vilas. Now, he just won a new fan.

I didn’t check if this book is a memoir by this Spanish writer, but it looked like one. You can check the book for yourself here .

The main character confronts the death of his parents and the end of an era. The book is written in a frank and poetic style, resembling a journal that records the author’s memories, emotions, and reflections. Vilas does not shy away from the dark aspects of life, such as loss, grief, loneliness, and the passage of time. He questions the meaning and purpose of everything, while also celebrating the beauty and love that he experienced with his parents, his lovers, his children, and his world. The book is a powerful and moving tribute to the people and the times that shaped the author’s identity and voice, and also a timestamp of Spain in the last decades.
