India: Saffron and Sorrow

I wrote this after a week spent visiting India. More days to come and I can’t wait to see what I will find more.

Sunlight paints the bustling square,

A million hues, a vibrant flair.

Silk saris drape on weathered frames,

Whispers of hardship, whispered names.

Taj Mahal weeps in marble white,

A love song carved in fading light.

Yet eyes that gleam with laughter bright,

Reflect a spirit taking flight.

Bollywood beats, a vibrant hum,

Amidst the dust, dreams overcome.

Cows graze by temples, gods untold,

A tapestry of new and old.

Misery’s shadow, long and stark,

But smiles bloom, leaving its mark.

A nation rising, claiming space,

With soul’s rich tapestry, it finds its place.
